Knot Coat

Official Title:

Three Hundred And Sixty Five Times One Point Five Equals Eight Thousand One Hundred And Ten (Thirty Two Thousand Four Hundred And Forty).

This piece was made partly as an outlet for the negative feelings Olin experienced in the time of her depression. Each knot is made of a calico strip, there are 8110 knots which took approximately four minutes each to make. Each knot made served as a calming technique and as a project to keep her focused and content, however when they are brought together as a whole they weigh the wearer down so representing the feelings that led to its creation. The colour and texture of the material serves to juxtapose against the subject matter. Whilst it looks soft and warm, in reality the knots are hard and unyeilding.

Knot Coat was produced in the final year of Olin's Undergraduate degree and was featured in the Derby Open in 2012.
